Breast augmentation, at Dr. Carlos Illich Navarro practice, is also known as mammoplasty, a surgery performed to increase the size of the breasts. It involves placing breast implants under the breast tissue or chest muscles.
Breast augmentation is a procedure to enlarge or change the shape of the breasts. For some women, breast augmentation is a way to improve their confidence. For others, it is part of breast reconstruction due to various diseases.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation could help you with the following:
- Improve your appearance if you consider that your breasts are small or that one is smaller than the other, and this affects the way you dress or the type of bra you need to improve asymmetry.
- Adapt to reduce breast size after pregnancy or significant weight loss
- Correcting uneven breasts after breast surgery for other conditions
- Improve self-confidence

During the procedure
To insert the breast implant, Dr. Illich Navarro will make a single cut (incision) in one of three places:
- The fold under the breast (inframammary)
- Under the arm (axillary)
- Around the nipple (periareolar)
After making an incision, Dr. Navarro will separate the breast tissue from the muscles and connective tissue of the chest. This creates a cavity either behind or in front of the outermost muscle of the chest wall (pectoralis muscle). Dr. Navarro will insert the implant into this cavity and center it behind the nipple.
When the implant is in place, Dr. Navarro will close the incision (usually with stitches [sutures]) and dress it with skin adhesive and surgical tape.
